Glytzisto Festival
If you have a sweet tooth and you happen to be in the area of Limassol wine villages, then Koilani is the place to be!
Glytzisto Festival is a celebration of sweetness, family, and tradition. A feast where the women of Koilani demonstrate how their traditional local sweet, Glytzisto, is made. In the past, Glytzisto was offered as a treat at weddings, christenings and during the Carnival, but nowadays we just do not miss a chance to enjoy it!
Glytzisto is made of thin strips of pastry tight together like braids, fried, dipped in syrup and sprinkled with crushed almonds, cinnamon and sugar. Divine!
Not only does Glytzisto taste heavenly, but it also looks as a piece of art. That’s why it is also called “the Koilanian lace of confectionery” and it features in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list of Cyprus.
While in the area of Koilani, make sure you visit the small museums and wineries of the village which will stay open on this special day. Stroll in the picturesque alleys, enjoy the Cypriot hospitality, drink your Cyprus coffee at one of the village’s traditional coffee shops and enjoy the Cypriot traditional music and dancing. During the festival, you may visit a photo exhibition at the village, children can have fun at the playground while you can taste and purchase delicious local delicacies and handicrafts.
