Olive Oil Fair

“Eveleos” … that’s how Cyprus was called by the ancient Greek geographer and philosopher Strabo, meaning producing fine olive oil. Olive trees are deeply rooted in Cyprus and its culture as a symbol of peace, wisdom, victory and longevity. Olives, olive oil and their products have a significant role in our diet and daily life, as well as very obvious presence in cultural and religious events.

If you want to experience the nutritional and cultural value of olive oil in Cyprus, visit the Olive Oil Fair in Agios Ioannis, a tiny village between the rivers Diarizos and Xeros in Pafos district.

Discover the long history of this humble tree and enjoy a demonstration of oil extraction with the traditional stone mill and oil press with zempilia (woven baskets made of palm trees). Enjoy free toasted bread with olive oil and palouzes (creamy dessert; grape juice mixed with flour). Walk around the various stalls to buy and taste different local products such as resi (wheat with meat dish), enjoy a unique olive oil tasting and explore its variety of flavors and aromas.

A rich entertainment show will be presented by traditional groups that will perform Cyprus dances.
