Mushroom Festival

Every year mushroom enthusiasts from all over the island gather in Spilia village to celebrate the humble yet notorious fungus. The festival has grown into one of the largest and most prestigious events in Troodos mountain region. It is a two-day shindig of food, family fun and mushroom tips.

Enrich your knowledge of mycology by getting tips from the best! The festival features lectures on the secrets of mushroom growing, while we take a walk in the nearby forest. Mushroom picking experts will introduce you to the world of mushrooms, help you identify them and show you how to select the best. You will also sample all kinds of mushroom dishes, from fried mushrooms to mushroom soups, and from mushroom gyros to mushroom pasta.

The highlight of this year’s festival is the Organizers’ attempt to break the World Record for the largest sautéed mushrooms dish, using a pan of a 4-meter-diameter. A thousand kilos of mushrooms are expected to be used, so make sure you go early enough to give a hand in cutting and slicing the mushrooms. Then you can boast about being part of this unique achievement.

Children’s eyes will light up at the variety of games and activities, while the main stage will host an entertaining program of traditional dances and songs.
