The Dragon Game application
The Dragon game is a discovery game that uses Augmented reality and takes you on a legendary quest along the Heartland of Legends route. Use your phones or tablets to scan real life locations of fountains in Cyprus. After you finished your scan, a small story will unfold in front of you that will depict dragons from the Cypriot mythology while learning about the history of the fountain.
After installing the application on your mobile phone, you can discover dragons hiding in the main Water Fountains of 20 Heartland villages. Visit each village, open the app and scan the Fountain. A fantastic digital dragon will appear and a small story will unfold that highlights traditions, fairy tales, legends and unique local characteristics of each village. Catch all the dragons to complete the collection.
The application design and the dragons are inspired by the unique works of the Cypriot engraver Hampis Tsangaris winner of the Heritage Award / Europa Nostra.
The Dragon game is linked to the Heartland of Legends route created by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism that promotes inland tourism and showcases Cyprus’ tangible and intangible cultural heritage and folklore.
The project was implemented in collaboration with the CYENS Center of Excellence and the School of Engraving “Hambis Haraktis” and was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
Requirements for Android devices:
Android 6.0 (API level 23) or newer.
The device must have a camera.
OpenGL 2.0 (or newer).
Devices with a quad-core CPU (armv7a with NEON support or armav8a) e.g.
4GB of RAM or more.
Additionally for instant tracking:
Compass.
Accelerometer.
Since all the fountains are located outside, it is important that the lighting is consistent so that the tracking works accurately all the time. It will also be possible that you might need to provide the application with some geolocation data while scanning. An internet connection is also required in order to update the database and the accounts of the players.
