Analyontas Olive Tree Festival
Analyontas village festival celebrates the Olive Tree, which grows in abundance in the area.
Join the walk through the olive groves around the village, participate in olive-picking and deliver your yield at the village square, where demonstration of oil extraction with the traditional oil press with zempilia (net baskets woven using palm tree leaves) will take place. TV cook Chryso Lefou will show how to bake traditional olive pies.
There will be demonstrations of traditional craft items such as pithkiavli (traditional fipple flute), traditional chair making, reed baskets and pottery. There will be food stalks where you can taste freshly made palouzes (a creamy dessert made from grape juice mixed with flour) and on site distilled zivania (a strong traditional pomace drink). Sample and buy halloumi (our Protected Designation of Origin cheese), spoon sweet preserves, loukoumades (deep-fried dough balls dipped in syrup), makaronia tou sklinitziou (pasta with bulrush, also registered as PDO), fides (vermicelli like pasta), freshly baked breads, trachanas (traditional thick soup made with a mixture of grain and fermented milk), carob syrup and much more.
During the festival there will be organized kids activities and workshops, live traditional music concerts and dances.
